Skin Care Tips for Beginners.

By Marina

Would I read this article if I were in my 20s?

Eh, maybe not. My reaction: whatever, I am young, my skin is glowing. Only occasionally I have a pimple. Who cares, skincare routine is for those unfortunate ones who crossed that terrible age of 30. I still have time.

Let me disappoint you!

If you are just starting your skincare in your 30s, you are already too late. You lost 10 precious years of your life to preserve your youth. 10 years of:

  – clogged pores

 – sleeping with makeup on,

 – washing your face with harsh cleansers,

 – not wearing  sunblock

 – not wearing protection from the harsh environment: heat or frost

– not replenishing of moisture and/or nutrients

Then, at your high school reunion, you meet your high school rival. Her skin has that distinct glow, looking like fine English porcelain placed against the bright light. You rush to the lady’s room to confirm that your skin looks as good.  A quick glance in the mirror and you feel a wave of disappointment and envy.

Is this what you want?

Make good habits in your 20s to look great as you age.

Nobody is talking about the 11 steps skincare routine or regimen for women in their 50.  You need a SIMPLE routine!

The earlier you start the more grateful you will be to yourself later in your life. You can start with a very simple routine, but the keyword here is a “ROUTINE”

Definition of routine -The sequence of actions regularly followed.

  •  You brush your teeth twice a day, to keep your mouth in good condition. The same principle must be applied to your face.
  • Never go to bed with your makeup on. It doesn’t matter how tired or wasted you are. We have been there, we remember those days. If you have time to take off your clothing – you should have time to wash off your makeup.
  • Do not use soap to wash your face. It will strip off natural skin oils and dry out your skin. Use a gentle natural cleanser.  A cleanser removes the dirt, makeup, excess oil and bacteria that come in contact with your skin. This first step in your routine is critical. Cleansing your face will help you start or end your day with fresh skin. When your skin is clean and pores are opened, you’ll be able to receive the maximum benefits from the products you apply after cleansing. This way products are absorbed more easily. Plus, because your skin is clean, it is breathing and functioning properly – fewer chances for breakouts.
  • Moisturize at least once a day. Choose a well-formulated natural moisturizer. Depending on your skin type you may need a light lotion or more nourishing cream.
  • If you have breakouts -exfoliate at least twice a week. It will help to remove dead skin and unclog your pores. Topical acne treatments containing ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid can reduce the number of breakouts you experience, as well as help acne heal faster. These treatments should be applied immediately after you cleanse your skin. See step 1. When applying these treatments, remember to plan ahead. Most acne treatments need at least 5-15 minutes to dry before you can proceed with the rest of your routine. Remember a lot of acne topicals are drying your skin. See step 2  – you need a moisturizer!
  •  Wear sunscreen.  There are chemical and physical UV ray blockers. We do not recommend chemical ones. They may disrupt your hormonal balance and they reflect UV rays after they have penetrated into your skin. Physical UV blockers reflect it from the surface of your skin. Use natural sun blockers like Zinc Oxide. If you do not want to see white streaks from the sunblock – use a powdered form of sunscreen. It is easy to apply at the moment of the day without ruining your makeup.

As you start approaching your 30-es, you may introduce Vitamin C into your routine. This is a miracle ingredient that protects your skin from being damaged by UV rays, creates the glow, and assists in the development of your own collagen.

Help your skin to maintain its youth! Start early – you will be grateful later.

Remember- you will be wearing this skin for the rest of your life!
